Abstract

In this research, we dealt with a problematic issue related to the etymological issues of the linguistic term in the Arabic linguistics, and we came out with two contradictory views in the approach and method: an original view that stems from linguistics to look for the etymology in the heritage and a modernized view that stems from the modern linguistics and there is no other source in understanding terms and controlling their concepts. It became clear that the epistemological premises of the original view are governed by intellectual foundations that are not based on a solid and clear scientific methodology that takes into account the logical causes and consequences that establish the ancient linguistic field; Rather, its owners tend to use emotional and ideological arguments to defend their ideas, and this has led them to fall into several fallacies on which they built flimsy results that cannot withstand scientific linguistic arguments, which is what made the owners of the modernizing views tend to follow modern linguistic thought and its scientific methods that they see useful in finding a solution to the issue of the linguistic term and its application to the Arabic language. Linguistics in particular, which made us emphasize this difference between the two views, whether it is related to the intellectual foundations adopted by each view to demonstrate the correctness of its conception of the issue of rooting, and it is related to the mechanisms used in dealing with the term. We revealed the epistemological background of each view and the extent of its success or failure in the terminological processing methods. We showed the cognitive and methodological pitfalls of each view by relying on a conceptual and notional examination of some terms related to the pragmatic field.
