The Linguistic and Philosophical Frameworks of the Concept of Discourse in Contemporary Western Thought

Abstract

Thisstudy aimsto research the notion of discourse and the waysin which it is formed, as well as researching the theoretical formulation of this notion in western contemporary modern thought by way of two overlapping fields of knowledge: the field of linguistics, through which we will compare the main linguistic milestones that shaped the theoretical formulation of this notion and made it an independent subject in Linguistic studies, such as structural, functional and enunciative, and the field of Philosophy, Human and Social sciences, in which we will attempt to explore the most prominent philosophical conceptions and their theoretical references that philosophically elucidated the semantic and cognitive aspects of the discourse analysis notion in western contemporary modern thought; notably, the conceptions of Claude Lévi-Strauss, Paul Ricœur and Michel Foucault.
